Congratulations OHS Aviation Challenge Team

The OHS Aviation Challenge Team received a surprise visit from Mr. Jim Hirsch, president of Air Tractor, this morning. The team consisting of OHS Seniors: Bryant C., Michael G., Amber M., and Kodee S. submitted their aviation project on May 5th to the General Aviation Manufacturer's Association. This is the 5th year GAMA has sponsored this challenge to high schools across the country. The students modified a virtual Cessna 172S airplane to be as fuel efficient as possible, carry a maximum payload, and be able to take off and land from designated runways at two airports in Washington. The team demonstrated the proficiency of their plane by flying it through a simulation and receiving a calculated score and then completing an essay of their modifications and a step-by-step checklist of their flight procedures. Mr. Hirsch was happy to announce that out of 93 schools nations wide, Olney High School won first place! The team will receive an all-expense paid trip for two weeks to Washington state to build a real plane! Congratulations!
