POOHS Receive Superior at Region Competition

The Pride of Olney High School Band received a “superior” rating at the UIL Region 7 (North Zone) Marching Contest on Saturday, October 21.  The competition was held at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls. Judges for the competition were Mr. Jim Alexander (retired) of Kennedale, Mr. Joe Dolkos (retired) from Weatherford, and Mr. Aaron Martin, Director of Bands from Azle ISD. Superior ratings were awarded to the OHS Band from each judge.  This is the eighth first division rating in the last ten years and seven consecutive superior ratings. Other Class 2A bands performing Saturday and their ratings include Electra (2), Archer City (2), Windthorst (1), Petrolia (1), Anson (1), Stamford (2), Seymour (1), Haskell (2), and Munday (1).  Bands receiving a first division will advance to the Area Marching Contest which will be held on Saturday, October 28 at Ram Stadium in Mineral Wells.  The Pride of Olney High School will march at 2:45 p.m. in the preliminaries of the Area contest.  Fourteen bands will compete to be selected for seven slots in the finals.  From the seven finalists, three bands will be chosen to represent Area B at the UIL State Marching Band Contest in San Antonio on November 6-8. Other bands in the Area competition include high school bands from Alvord, Hico, Blue Ridge, Honey Grove, Santo, Cayuga, Bells, and Cross Roads Admission for the Area competition on Saturday is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
