ORDER TO POSTPONE MAY 2, 2020 ELECTION TO THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 UNIFORM
The Board of Trustees of the Olney Independent School District (the "District") previously ordered an election to be held on May 2, 2020 for the purpose of: electing two (2) members to the Board of Trustees of said District.
Pursuant to the proclamation by the Governor of the State of Texas dated March 18, 2020 (the “Proclamation"), the School District is authorized to postpone its election date to November 3, 2020, and the District's Board of Trustees, by majority vote, is exercising this authority postpone its election to November 3, 2020, without otherwise adjusting the term of office.
The District hereby confirms that the candidate filings for the May 2, 2020, election will remain valid for the election held on the November 3, 2020, date and the filing period will not be re opened for the November election date.
The District hereby confirms that all applications for ballot by mail ("ABBMs“) for voters that are voting by mail due to being over the age of 65 or due to disability will still be valid for the postponed election. ABBMs for the voters who submitted ABBMs based on expected absence from the county will not be valid for the postponed election. New ABBMs will need to be submitted for the November election where an absence from the county is expected.
The major relevant dates for the November election include the voter registration deadline (October 5, 2020), the deadline to submit an application for ballot by mail (October 23, 2020), and the dates for early voting (8:00 am - 5:00 pm October 19, 2020 - October 23, 2020, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm October 24, 2020, and 7:00 am - 7:00 pm October 26, 2020 - October 30, 2020).
The District requests that the applicable County election officers enter into a contract to furnish election services to the District for the postponed election under the authority of the Governor's Proclamation.
