Olney ISD Health and Safety Guidelines

At the Board of Trustee meeting March 22, 2021, our current Covid-19 health protocols were reviewed to update our plan for the remainder of our current school. It was decided that our current protocols will remain in place through April. At our April 26, 2021 meeting, our protocols will be reviewed again with the intention of relaxing restrictions May 1, 2021. The hope is to end the year in a more "normal" fashion and provide our kids with the end of school activities that were completely lost last year. Below is a list of the thoughts and considerations prompting this and areas we hope to make changes.

The remainder of March and April are very busy months for multiple activities. We want to provide the best chance possible that students are able to complete these activities (track, academic UIL, one act play, FFA, band concert and sight-reading, baseball, softball, etc). As well, we would like to open May up and consider the changes below.

1. Retain limited access to campuses for day-to-day discretionary purposes

2. Wearing of masks for staff, students, and visitors will be voluntary

3. Retain our general cleaning program

4. Retain some form of general distancing when feasible

5. Open up to allow all end of school activities and would include school assemblies, programs, concerts, banquets, prom, and graduation.

Over half of our staff has received the Covid-19 vaccination. All of us are respectful of how dangerous this virus is and its negative impact on life in general. It just seemed practical to provide a bit more time for Covid-19 to settle and allow the district to somewhat ease into what we consider normal. As well, this extra month provides time for those who would still like the vaccine to obtain it prior to the loosening of restrictions.
